Hunter Biden said he scrounged through carpets to find crack cocaine during the peak of his addiction.
“Yeah, I spent more time on my hands and knees picking through rugs smoking anything that even closely — even remotely resembled crack cocaine. I probably smoked more Parmesan cheese than anyone that you know, I’m sure, Tracy,” the 51-year-old son of President Joe Biden told CBS News’s Tracy Smith in a sit-down interview that aired on Sunday.
“I mean, I went one time for 13 days without sleeping and smoking crack and drinking vodka exclusively throughout that entire time,” he continued.
Biden is on tour to promote his memoir, Beautiful Things, which is due for release April 6. The book chronicles his struggle with drug addiction. Biden, who is a father of five, credits his second wife, Melissa Cohen, for getting him on the path to sobriety.
By the conclusion of the interview, in which the artist and businessman also asked about the federal investigation he is facing and the laptop story, Biden burst into tears recalling how his father almost lost him to drug addiction.
“Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,” he said. “It’s hard. … But, you know, I guess one of the reasons that I’m crying is because — you know, beautiful things, we’re here. We’re here.”
