ABC has announced the names of numerous right-leaning women who will serve as temporary fill-in hosts at “The View” following the departure of co-host Meghan McCain.
Former Utah congresswoman Mia Love will fill in for McCain during the first week of the new season, according to Fox News.
Other women who will get their chance as a co-host include former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, CNN host S.E. Cupp, former presidential candidate Carly Fiorina, former Fox News host Eboni K. Williams, CNN analyst Mary Katharine Ham, Trump communications director Alyssa Farah and reality TV star Cameran Eubanks, Fox reported.
It’s unclear who will land the permanent position in place of McCain, but the show’s producer has made it clear that they wish to take their time filling the spot.
McCain announced she’d be leaving the show back in July, jokingly telling her co-hosts, “If you want to fight a little bit more, I’ve got four more weeks.”
“This was not an easy decision,” McCain said on-air. “It took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer, and talking to my family and my close friends.”
“COVID has changed the world for all of us, and it changed the way — at least for me — the way I’m looking at life,” she said, noting that spending time with her new baby daughter and living her “incredible life” in Washington D.C. were not something she wanted to give up.
Though there was speculation of McCain’s ouster in the tabloids, Fox News confirmed via a source that McCain left on her own accord:
McCain said her decision to leave was difficult, but she enjoyed settling down in Washington, D.C., with her husband and daughter since the coronavirus pandemic and didn’t want to upend her life again for the New York-based program. A source told Fox News last month it was indeed McCain’s decision to leave the program.
“The View” executive producer Brian Teta said former hosts will make appearances, too, in the coming season.
“Twenty-five years is such an incredible milestone,” Teta said in a statement. “We have so much planned to honor this amazing platform that Barbara Walters created. I can’t think of a better way to kick off that celebration than by welcoming the co-hosts back to the iconic View table and to have them in front of a live studio audience again.”
Though she’s done with “The View,” McCain is still making political waves. The conservative recently blasted the Biden administration for the botched and fatal withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“I have been physically ill, more depressed than I have been since the beginning stages of the pandemic and filled nothing short of pure rage and anger since the calamity of a ‘pull out’ which will be seen as one of the greatest foreign policy catastrophes of my lifetime,” McCain wrote on Instagram. “I am furious our President was so incompetent not to see what every expert on the planet could have seen coming. I am furious for my friends and family who have been fighting in these wars since I was 16 (many who have lost limbs, had their life terrorized by PTSD from their experiences in war and deployments, or worse).”
“I am furious seeing our allies and innocent Afghan citizens who trusted us are being left to be slaughtered or so desperate to escape the pure evil the Taliban will bring in that they are falling out of f***king planes,” she continued. “This is not who America is; this is not the values this country was founded in. Our veterans deserve better; the innocent Afghan people and our allies and translators who have stood by us for the past 20 years deserve better. The shame, dishonor and embarrassment the Biden administration has brought to our country will take generations to undo.”
