The rehearsal for President-elect Joe Biden‘s Inauguration Day that was set to take place on Sunday has been postponed for security reasons after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Two people familiar with the situation told Politico the rehearsal will now take place on Monday, two days before Biden will be sworn into office.

“In the week since the attack on Congress by a mob that included domestic terrorists and violent extremists, the nation has continued to learn more about the threat to our democracy and about the potential for additional violence in the coming days, both in the National Capital Region and in cities across the country,” Biden’s transition team said in a statement. “This is a challenge that the President-elect and his team take incredibly seriously.”

Biden’s team has also canceled a planned Amtrak trip the president-elect was set to take from Wilmington, Delaware, to Washington, D.C., next week.

Since the deadly attack on the Capitol that left five people dead on Jan. 6, local and federal officials have been beefing up security in Washington ahead of the inauguration. Security officials have locked down the Capitol complex, and over 20,000 armed National Guard troops are expected to be deployed to help secure the area when Biden is sworn in.

The FBI has also been warned of potential armed protests at state capitols across all 50 states during the weekend before Inauguration Day.

Secret Service Deputy Chief Marty Wilkerson said planning for the event has been underway for more than three years.

“Our perimeter is expansive,” Wilkerson said, promising that the inauguration will not be a repeat of the events that took place on Jan. 6.
