A person was taken into custody outside a Pennsylvania daycare center near where an active shooter was reported early Wednesday, according to reports.
At least one person was hospitalized and an unknown number of people were hurt during the incident at about 4:50 a.m. near Route 100 and Industrial Boulevard in Upper Macungie Township, according to police radio broadcasts cited by The Morning Call.
The suspected shooter was described as a white man in a red and black hoodie who had a 9mm handgun, according to the report.
A suspect was reportedly found at 6:45 a.m. outside Brookside Children’s Early Education Center in Wescosville, near a Wawa convenience store at Route 100 and Schantz Road, where authorities set up a massive police response and shut down several local roadways.
An officer near the convenience store said people should avoid the area “at all costs” early Wednesday, the Morning Call reported.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Nathan Branosky told LehighValleyLive.com that people were injured during the incident.
A Lehigh County emergency dispatcher declined to comment when asked if a suspect had been located near the daycare center, the outlet reported.
Upper Macungie Township police and state police are reportedly investigating the incident.
The report sent several businesses nearby, including warehouses for Ocean Spray and Nestle, into lockdown, the Morning Call reported.
Messages sent to Branosky and Wawa seeking additional comment were not immediately returned.
